Yikes, I’m sooooo late posting this blog, this month has gone by so fast! I promise to get the next one up at the start of the month! Ok, what’s in the box:
This is a full-size product which is great. I am always applying lip balms to my lips, you could say I’m a little obsessed! This is a cruelty-free, paraben-free, vegan brand which is always great to see. It’s one of those ones that change colour depending on the heat from your lips. I’ve never been a big fan of these types of products as the colour it changes to is always sheer and ends up looking like I’ve eaten something spicy and it’s made my lips go hot and red!
Now, I was pleasantly surprised with this one as it went more of a pink sheer than a red, which it gets points for, but again, I am not a fan of sheer lip colours, to me, if I am going to add colour to my lips I want it to be obvious that I’ve added colour, so prefer a good highly pigmented lippy than the sheer ones. But, this is moisturising so I will continue to use it, always good to have a spare lip balm in your bag. This has a slight minty smell and a slight cooling feel on your lips when you apply it. It’s not one that makes your lips tingle, just makes them feel a bit cool which is quite nice actually.
This retails at £11.00, which for me is an expensive lip balm! I could get 3 of my Nivea lip balms for that!
I got mine in the shade medium/dark which is perfect for me. This again is a full-size product, and I was quite excited to try this out as I love brow products. This is such a cute little size, it’s great for throwing in your bag.
This is a lot like the Benefit Gimme Brow, as it’s a tinted brow gel with the tiny fibres mixed in to make your brows look fuller, I have the Benefit one too in medium/deep and here is a swatch of the two so you can compare colours.
As you can see they are pretty close. The difference for me is that the ModelCo one doesn’t fill out the brow as well as the Benefit one does, in my opinion. It does coat the brow hairs in the brown colour and helps set the brow in place, but I feel the Benefit one fills in gaps in the brow better. All in all, a nice product though. I got one of the ModelCo mascaras in a box a while back and I LOVE that mascara, so I really rate this brand.
This retails at £13.00 (the benefit one is £18.50)
Lanolips Intense Golden Ointment (I can't seem to find the link for this on the Birchbox site for some reason!)
Another full-size product! This is a really thick moisturising gel with quite a strong initial scent of honey. I really don’t like the smell of honey but luckily it does fade quite quickly into a more pleasant sweet smell. This is very similar to the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant. I’d say the Lanolips one is thicker though and also is quite sticky to apply and stays sticky for a while, which I’m not a big fan of. It says it contains Lanolin, Vitamin E and Manuka honey and leaves a barrier to protect dry skin. It definitely leaves a barrier which is great, but I prefer the Elizabeth Arden one, yes it’s more expensive at £26.00, but I find it rubs in a little better. I tried this on my lips as we all know I have dry lips but I didn’t like this on them, too thick and sticky. I put it on my elbows and it did a great job of moisturising them and that protective barrier lasted really well. So this is a good product, but I just don’t get on with the stickiness or the smell of honey :(
This retails at £17.99
Sample size in a cute little squeezy tube. This claims to be like a real-life Instagram filter in a bottle. Illuminating and lifting your complexion in a flash, and it nourishes the skin deep down too and you apply it underneath your moisturiser. This sounds like a miracle cream!
So I got this all up in my facial routine but I can’t say I’ve noticed any miracles. I have only used it a couple of times, maybe I need to use it more. It does help to moisturise though. Not a lot more I can say about this.
This retails at £33.90 so it’s quite pricey (as are all of these ‘miracle’ products!)
Another sample size product but quite a good sized sachet. I’ve not had a chance to try this out yet, but the description says this seals split ends and fights dryness. It is made up of completely natural ingredients, such as Buckthorn Berry and Jojoba Oil. You use it once a week and leave it on for 5-10 minutes. It sounds amazing. I’ve just gone for the silver hair and I started off with my natural dark brown hair, so it’s been bleached a good 3-4 times over the last month or so, so I think I need this hair mask! Lol
This retails at £19.99
Sample size and I’m not surprised when you see the price of this item! Haha! I have mild dark circles under my eyes, they’re not too bad but I’d rather not have them and I am starting to get a hint of wrinkles around my eyes so I’m all about a good eye cream! Can’t say I’ve noticed any difference in using this cream but I keep forgetting to use it and when I do, I’m normally running late for work, so I’m rubbing it in quickly rather than patting it gently, so I’m probably making matters worse than if I’d just left them alone! Lol
This says that the Hyaluronic Acid hydrates, revitalises and firms the skin, sounds good I will keep on using it. Although the sachet is quite small I think it will last a while as you only use a tiny amount of it each time.
Now, get ready for it…....this retails at £115.00, now unless this worked wonders the first time I used it, I don’tsee myself forking out that much on an eye cream!
Overall thoughts, this isn't my favourite Birchbox this month, although I do like the brow gel and am looking forward to using my (much needed) hair treatment mask! But as always, it's fun receiving the box and being surprised by the goodies inside! And a reminder that these monthly boxes are £10 + £2.95 postage and you always get more in your box than the cost it!
Thank you for reading and I will see you again next week with some more of my random banter (I know, I know, you just can’t contain your excitement each weekend!) :)
