So I finally got round to buying a solid brush cleaner. I opted for the Japonesque Solid Brush Cleanser Gentle Coconut Cleansing Balm as I saw it had a coconut scent and I love coconut scented things. (They also do a Gentle Milk Cleansing Balm).
When this arrived I thought it looked really nice. It comes in white packaging and it's very simple and fresh looking.
The soap itself is a creamy beige colour and smells delicious! The coconut any too strong, it's a sweet coconut smell, in fact, I’d say it a cross of marzipan and coconut. Really like it! The reason I wanted to get a solid brush cleaner was mainly for my beauty blenders and makeup sponges. So I tried this out on those first. And honestly, I didn't think it did a great job. The soap didn't foam up at all and it didn’t remove all of the foundation from any of my sponges, and what’s more upsetting is that it actually removed the pink colouring of my actual Beautyblender! As you can see it cleaned my Beautyblender a bit better than my Real Techniques one but then it didn't remove the colour of my actual Real Techniques sponge! To be fair, this does say that it’s a ‘brush cleanser’ so I’m not going to complain as it got a lot of the foundation out.
Next, I tried it on my brushes. This time, it did foam up a little, not a lot though, I was expecting more. I had to really press the brushes hard into the cleanser and had to do this a few times on all of my brushes to get the middle of them clean. Although this did clean my fluffier brushes, it really struggled with the middle of my flat top kabuki brush. I pressed this brush so hard into the cleanser to the point I thought I was going to damage the brush just to get the brush to splay so the cleanser could get to the middle, and swirled it round loads. But as you can see from the photos it didn’t clean the middle, it also struggled a little with my blush brush (both in the top right of the close up).
Before getting this I used my shampoo to clean my brushes and overall I’d say that cleaned them better than the Japonesque Solid Brush Cleanser but I do love the smell of my brushes after using this, they smell fresh and clean and there’s subtle hint of Pina Colada. And I’m all about nice smells so for that reason I will continue to use this and will probably purchase this again! I’ll use it on my fluffier brushes as it seemed to work better on those and possibly my makeup brushes. I might get the Beautyblender Solid Cleanser just for my Beautyblenders.
I got mine from Amazon at it was £16 and you get 36g and the Beautyblender one is £14 and you get 28.35g but you do also get a little pink mat to air dry your Beautyblenders on and you can even use that to scrub your brushes on to help clean them and I believe this is lavender scented.
Let me know if you've tried any solid brush cleansers and what your favourites are. Especially for your beauty sponges, so I can try them too :)
