I’d never heard of iQ Naturals before so I looked them up and saw that they use natural, organic ingredients in all of their products, which is great and got to be better for my sensitive skin. They do a range of products from skincare, bath & body, aromatherapy and mineral makeup.
I was asked to review some of their makeup and I received four eyeshadows, two bronzers and a travel makeup brush kit. Amazing! Their makeup is all mineral, so think bareMinerals. I used to use the bareMinerals foundation, (you know, the swirl, swirl, tap, tap, power stuff), and loved it. So was mega excited to test these out.
So let’s start with the bronzers. These are the same principal as the bareMinerals powers, you tap a bit in the lid, swirl your brush round, until you almost can’t see the product on the brush, then tap off any excess and apply! Simples! And it really is that simple.
The lightest bronzer I was sent is Radiant Rose and this almost looks like it should be a blush as it looks a gorgeous pale pink, but it does go on as a beautiful bronzer. At first, I thought it might be too light for my skin tone, but you can build it up, and actually this is so pretty for every day or just to give that fresh-faced look. I used this over my Becca Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation (is it just me or do Becca products have the longest names ever!) and that is such a luminous foundation, and even with this bronzer on top, the glow from the foundation still shone through, if anything this added to the sheen. Simply gorgeous!
The darker of the two bronzers, is Natural Touch and is perfect for my skintone (I’m an NC20/NC25 in MAC foundations if you were interested) and this gives a gorgeous glow to the skin looking like I’ve been in the sun ever so slightly, it’s not over the top so no chance of a bronzer helmet, but you can build these up by adding more layers really easily.
Now the top picture is a heavy application with my finger, the bronzers will not look like this on your face (unless you apply it with your fingers that is!) But I wanted to show you the colour comparisons. The bottom picture if you can see, is applied with the brush and is more true to how this will look on your face.
It can sometimes be hard to get as much of the product out as you want so I found the best way for me, was to loosen the lid, turn it upside down and tap on the base with the end of a brush then pull the base away and voila, perfect amount of powder in the lid :)
Onto the eyeshadows! Again these have been applied with my finger so the swatches are intense.
First up is Sweet Grace, a shimmery, pale yellow gold. This is really pretty on the lid, I teamed it up with Pink Crystal on the inner corner and it just made the eyes look wide awake and it’s great for summer. Something I found with these is that although these are loose powders, I got zero fallout when I used these, which really surprised me, even when used with no eye primer. If you really want to make these colours pop, spritz your brush with some MAC Fix Plus, oh my days, you are going to be one shimmery disco ball! Oh yes!
Next is Pink Crystal. As you can see this looks pink in the pot but comes off very shimmery white. I personally LOVE this as a highlight. But be careful as you don’t need a lot, the tiniest amount on your cheeks is intense! If any of you follow Jaclyn Hill on Snapchat, you might remember her wearing the highlight from the Sleek Solstice palette and it beaming into space? Well, I would say this is brighter! It is my new favourite highlighter, I was using Becca’s Opal but changed to this now as I think this is brighter! This is also good for the inner corner of the eyes.
Next is Dragonfly. A gorgeous shimmery purple. This again comes off more white than purple but I love this on my lids, it gives a really fresh open eyes look. Team it up with a bold winged eyeliner and it’s a statement look! I found you don’t need to use an eye primer with these they are really well pigmented but using a primer will make them last longer. I also use a light sweeping of this for a highlighter too :)
Lastly is a matte called Hopeful. This is a gorgeous nudey pink and great for the crease. I tend to prefer browns in my crease to pinks but this is such a nice colour I’m slowly being swayed! The finish of the matte shadow leaves a kind of satin look to it, really beautiful and soft. And this blends with other shadows so well. In fact, this could probably work as a blush, I've not tried that yet but I think I will!
Here are a couple photos of me using Pink Crystal as a highlight the picture on the left is in natural light and the one on the right is with a flash. (I'm also wearing the Natural Touch bronzer and Sweet Grace and Pink Crystal on my eyes)
Also the travel brush kit was cool, I love miniature brushes, they fit into my makeup bag! There were two powder brushes one slightly bigger, an eyeshadow shader brush, a lip brush and an eyebrow/lash brush. All in a cute metallic red travel case. The brow/lash brush is your standard brush, I usually use the spoolie I get with my brow pencils and I don’t really use lip brushes, but the eyeshadow brush is really good for these powders and not too big as I have little eyes so I love this! The two powder brushes were perfect for the powders too, I used the bigger one for the bronzers and the smaller one for the eyeshadows when I used them as highlighters They were the perfect size for me and allowed you to buff the powders in nice and evenly. And the travel bag has a little plastic flap to protect the brushes and to stop product falling out of the travel pouch onto anything else.
I am so happy I was sent these to test. I absolutely love all of it. I have looked on their site and am already eyeing up the metallic eyeshadows! The yellow and blues, ooh! And I really want to try a matte brown :)
Now, here’s the best bit. iQ Naturals ship internationally! Wahoo! And their prices are pretty good! Bronzers are $18 which is around £12.60 and the eyeshadows are $12.50 (about £8.75).
